Construction and operating principle

The piston forces oil through metering passages to dissipate impact energy. Turning the adjustment knob changes the effective flow area; the return mechanism resets the piston after the load is removed.

Applications and selection

Cylinder-driven, motor-driven and free-moving mechanisms requiring controlled deceleration. Check stroke, energy per cycle and hourly energy together.

Mounting and configuration

Match the mounting nuts, stop collars, flanges and side-load adapters to the exact model and thread. The catalogue's (B) designation identifies the cap-equipped variant; cap and overall-length differences must be checked separately.

Application and adjustment notes

Use EK and EKL when the stop needs adjustable hydraulic deceleration.

EK adjustable shock absorbers cover machine stops where impact speed and drive force vary by application. EKL is the lower approach-speed option in the same adjustable shock-absorber family, so compare speed, drive force, stroke and energy ratings in the model table before selection.

Adjustment principle

The catalog explains the adjustable knob, cam and oil orifices as the mechanism that changes the effective damping passage during piston travel.

Lower-speed EKL position

Use EKL when the application approaches the stop at lower speed, then compare the specific model table for approach speed, drive force, stroke, energy per cycle and energy per hour.

Setting method

Use the catalog setting curves and 0-8 adjustment scale as a commissioning reference. Do not infer a curve for a model that is not shown.

  • Send moving mass, impact speed, stroke, drive or thrust force, cycles per hour, mounting thread and available envelope.
  • For procurement, start with stroke, energy, force and thread filters, then request a confirmation if the operating case is unusual.
  • For engineering, start with the guided sizing path, then use the model table and application data to confirm the shortlist.
  • Do not treat application examples as delivered customer outcomes or quantified performance claims.
